Gabion baskets have been around for a while but are mostly used in big commercial and civil projects. Gabion baskets, sometimes called gabion cages, are wire mesh boxes filled with heavy material such as concrete, sand, or, most commonly, stone. Gabion baskets have many uses, but they are most commonly used for civil projects and increasingly as an aesthetic solution for public areas such as Visitor Centres and urban spaces.
Gabion comes from the Italian “gabbionne” meaning big cage.
